From April 2009, the law governing how UK businesses deal with workplace disputes is changing. The idea is that the new system will be quicker, simpler and cheaper…
Acas – the employment tribunal and arbitration service – have issued a brand new Code of Practice on how employers should handle disciplinary matters and workplace grievances.
The UK Government is also offering additional support so that employers enjoy the maximum benefits from the changed rules.
In summary, the 2008 Employment Act:
- Empowers employment tribunals to amend awards by up to 25% if an employee or employer has acted unreasonably
- Repeals the mandatory 3-stage process for disciplinary and grievance matters
