During the second year of the COVID-19 pandemic, there is increasing global competition for top academic, research and teaching talent. The world of higher education recruitment remains as competitive as ever, which is why at jobs.ac.uk we’ve carried out an in-depth study to provide you with a greater insight into the latest recruitment trends. We’ve taken a closer look at the 50,000+ job adverts placed by British and Irish higher education institutions on our job board throughout the academic year 2020-2021.
We posted 50,155 adverts during this period, of which 63% were academic, research and teaching positions, 30% were professional, managerial and support roles and 7% were Masters and PhD studentship opportunities.
Of the 28,985 academic opportunities advertised, 86% were offered on a full-time basis, and 55% were in the salary range of £30,000 – £39,000.
We formatted the report to replicate the Research Excellence Framework academic categories and found that Category A – consisting of Psychology, Agriculture Food and Veterinary, Biological Sciences and Health and Medical – was the most populated with 12,555 opportunities across the disciplines.
The most popular time of year for academic adverts to be posted was June and July, undoubtedly for recruitment to be completed in time for the beginning of the new Academic term in September / October.
