At this time of year, it feels appropriate to do some inner reflection. In my case, I made a careful list of all the CPD I’d done in 2014 … and understood why my work-life balance was swaying out of kilter! Much of it was done in evenings and weekends, but it was still somewhat excessive. Embarrassingly so! I did a blogpost about that, then decided that, since CPD is all a bit aspirational, maybe I should summarise my actual research outputs too. Another blogpost listed my publications, and I thought that was the job done.
However, it’s all very well looking back – but just as important looking forward, so I’ve subsequently turned my attention to my future plans. I haven’t blogged them yet! However, I’m very much looking forward to a newly revised block of sessions in which I shall be assisting the leader of our Scottish music degree course, talking about historic AND modern song settings, web resources and other research techniques. That’s going to be great fun both in the planning and implementation.
I’m also looking forward to meeting the descendant of one of “my” 19th century Scottish music collectors later this month – it’s great to find that someone has read my book and found it useful, and it’ll be good to share what we each know about one particular Victorian’s music interests.
