David Andrews

Associate Professor, School of English for International Business, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies

David Andrews graduated from Cornell University before receiving his PhD from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1997. Afterwards, he published four books on American literature and global cinema not to mention dozens of peer-reviewed articles. Andrews has taught at many American universities, including the State University of New York, the University of Illinois at Chicago, Loyola University Chicago, and Chicago State University. He came to China in 2018 where he lives with his wife, and he is currently Associate Professor of English in the School of English for International Business at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies.

Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS)

GDUFS is one of a selection of prestigious Chinese universities which specialises in international studies, as well as one of the key institutions of higher learning in the Guangdong Province of South China. Currently, the University offers 72 undergraduate majors which fall into 8 disciplines, namely literature, economics, management, law, engineering, science, education and art. The University possesses advanced teaching facilities and a sound educational environment with fixed assets totalling 2.9 billion RMB and a laboratory area totalling 52,000 square metres.

GDUFS boasts a diverse academic environment with more than 300 long-term and short-term international faculty coming from 34 countries and regions around the world. The University provides a good career development platform for international faculty and was one of the first universities in China to award international scholars with academic titles. Prof. Keith Kendrick

School of Life Science and Technology, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China

Professor Keith Kendrick has been working for UESTC since 2011. His current research project sets out to establish how the human brain interprets social and emotional information and how this becomes impaired in psychiatric disorders. He has published over 280 peer-reviewed papers, including many in Nature, Science and PNAS, as well as in leading Psychiatric journals. His H index is 75. He has received numerous competitive research grants from both UK and China-based funding agencies.

University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) is situated in Chengdu, the city with a one-thousand-year-old cultural history in ‘the land of abundance’.

Founded in 1956, the University has transformed its range of courses, from an initial offering of electronic information engineering courses, through to a varied offering of programs in electronic disciplines. UESTC later expanded to become a key multidisciplinary university with electronic science and technology at its centre, engineering as its major field and the harmonious integration of science, engineering, management and liberal arts, to become a high-level research-oriented university.

Dr. MA Lan

Director of the Talent Division, Human Resources Department, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China

Dr. MA Lan, Associate Researcher, has her BA/MA/PhD in Instrument Science and Technology from UESTC. She has held positions in student affairs prior to moving to her current post in the Human Resources department. Now she is responsible for recruitment and talent development.

Stijn van der Veen

Professor of Microbiology, School of Medicine, Zhejiang University

Prof. Stijn van der Veen is a Professor of Microbiology at Zhejiang University School of Medicine and adjunct Professor at Zhejiang University First Affiliated Hospital and Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital. In addition, he is also the Executive Editor of a recently launched academic journal; Infectious Microbes & Diseases. Recently, he was awarded with an Honorary Lectureship at the University of Edinburgh and he has also served as Assistant Dean at Zhejiang University School of Basic Medical Sciences from 2016 to 2020. Before moving to China, he spent several years at the University of Oxford as a Research Associate.

Zhejiang University

Zhejiang University (ZJU) is one of China’s top higher education institutions, as well as one of its oldest; its roots can be traced back to 1897 and the founding of the Qiushi Academy.

Located in Hangzhou – one of China’s most picturesque cities – the University has seven faculties and 37 schools. It is home to 3,741 full-time faculty members, including 46 members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. ZJU has 54,641 students, over 53% of whom are postgraduate students.

Prof. Stuart Perrin

Associate Principal, XJTLU Entrepreneur College (Taicang)

Professor Stuart Perrin was appointed Associate Principal of XJTLU Entrepreneur College (Taicang) by Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) in August 2019. He is responsible for developing the XJTLU Entrepreneur College (Taicang), which is part of a new and unique campus that XJTLU is developing in Taicang. In addition to developing seven new industry-themed schools, Stuart is also exploring the University’s unique Syntegrative Education model within the new campus. Earlier this year, Professor Stuart Perrin was appointed the first Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (PFHEA) in mainland China.

Dr. Eddy Fang

Deputy Dean, International Business School Suzhou, Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University

Dr. Fang is a Senior Associate Professor in Economics and is currently serving as the Head of the Economics Division at International Business School Suzhou, Xi’an Jiaotong – Liverpool University. He holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge, where he focused his research on the sociology of innovation adoption in modern markets. Upon arrival in China in 2012, he opened up new research directions to contribute to the development of the Chinese market, focusing particularly on how Chinese agents adopt new products, services, and practices.
