jobs.ac.uk hosted the ‘Essentials of Effective Online Recruitment’ seminar on 17th November at University of Warwick which was a huge success – so thank you to all our customers who attended and made the day so interactive and enjoyable for all!
The seminar included sessions from three online recruitment experts and provided recruitment professionals with the very latest information and tools necessary to get the most out of the internet as a recruitment tool.
Delegates heard fantastic insights, best practice and top tips around building effective online recruitment strategies, search engine recruitment, social media, online copywriting and e-Recruitment
Some of the highlights included:
- Increased reliance on the internet as a recruitment tool (jobseekers now only use one other method alongside job boards)
- 17% of jobseekers use mobile for job hunting
- 41% of jobseekers found complex application forms to be the most frustrating thing about employer websites
- Facebook has overtaken Google for the first time as a growth channel
- Specialist social media sites (e.g. niche forums/blogs) can offer less competition, more targeted candidates and higher conversions than Facebook, Twitter & LinkedIn
- Effective recruitment copywriting isn’t about how well you write. It’s about how well you think.
- Don’t forget the core purpose of a recruitment advertisement – It’s there to communicate the essential points of the job quickly and clearly, and provide a clear response i.e. application
- Think like a jobseeker – your advert must connect with the audience. Try putting yourself in their shoes. What will they be looking for? Try searching for similar jobs to the ones you want to advertise. Also ask someone who is already doing the same job about what would make them apply
- Use short and punchy sentences. Don’t just copy & paste job descriptions or person specs.
- Be strategic – use e-recruitment to reduce duplication, inconsistencies, streamline recruitment processes, improve service and Reduce/eradicate non-valued tasks
- Be balanced – your attraction campaign, careers website and e-recruitment and on-boarding software should all work in harmony
- Maxmise retention – Use e-Recruitment and talent mgt software to facilitate internal mobility and career progression e.g. internal job board
- Automate & structure e.g. use online pre-screens, questionnaires, and tests, especially in high volume campaigns, to screen out unsuitable candidates.
